Minimum wage in Ireland

The minimum wage in Ireland is a maximum €9.25 for an experienced adult worker. An experienced adult worker is someone who is over 18 years and not in their first 2 years of employment. This new Irish national minimum wage came into effect January 1st 2017. The below table outlines the variations in the Irish minimum wage:

Minimum wage in UK

The current minimum wage in the UK is a maximum £7.20. This applies to people 25 and over. A new UK national minimum wage is due to come into effect April 1st 2017 where the maximum minimum wage will increase by 30p to £7.50. The table below outlines the various levels of the UK minimum wage:


Minimum Wages Compared

With £1 currently equating to €1.17, the result is that the Irish minimum wage is close to 10% higher than the UK minimum wage. This will drop closer to being 5% higher when the UK minimum wage increases April 1st 2017.
