Understanding Tax Credits – Blind Person Tax Credit
A person who is blind may claim the blind person tax credit of €1,650 for the current tax year. Where both spouses or civil partners are blind, the tax credit is doubled. There is also an additional allowance of €825 available to blind people who are the registered owner of a guide dog. Tax relief is available on this allowance at the standard rate of tax. The maximum amount of relief available is €165 (€825 at 20%).
